no matter how long it takes, no matter how far

Has anyone else seen that Nike commercial with Shawne Merriman of the San Diego Chargers running through all sorts of different weather patterns tackling offensive players from various teams?

Can I just say that that commercial bugs the crap out of me for one very specific reason: the music playing in the commercial is the same piece of music that plays in "Last of the Mohicans" when Daniel Day-Lewis (and his hair) go charging up that mountain in North Carolina (okay, in the movie it's supposed to be, like, upstate New York, but I think the movie was shot near Asheville) after Madeleine Stowe and Jodhi May, who have been kidnapped by the indians that aren't Mohicans (they're what, Huron?).

You see, it bugs me because I'm usually not paying attention to the TV, I hear that music (which...okay, honestly, it's on my iPod), and get all excited because I think that my TV will be showing me a half-dressed, 1992-era Daniel Day-Lewis (and his hair)...then I look up and see that commercial. Now I'm sitting here completely bummed out because I'm not sure where my tape of "Last of the Mohicans" ran off to.

I think I'll be making a trip to Best Buy tomorrow...since I won't be in class and all.

captain jack will get you high tonight

I've been waiting for this day all year:

The day that Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest arrived at a theater near me.

I would've gone last night, but I don't really like going to midnight movies alone (something about needing someone to make sure I'm awake enough to drive home, even though I'm an insomniac and don't go to sleep before 4 anyway). So I went to the 11:30am showing this morning - another benefit to not having to work on Fridays. And it was totally worth it - it's one of the better sequels I've ever seen.

I'm already on the edge of my seat waiting for next Memorial Day weekend.

all the fun of the movies without the dancing hot dog

I borrowed this meme from Ryan's blog since I have nothing better to post about right now. (Plus, I've watched a lot of movies over the course of this 5-day weekend.) Enjoy!

The Rules:

A. Pick 11 of your favorite movies.
B. Then pick one of your favorite quotes from each movie.
C. Post the quotes on your blog.
D. Have commenters guess what the movie is.
E. Place the guesser’s user name directly after the quote. (Note to anonymous posters - it'll be great if you could give me a name so that I'm not crediting responses to Anonymous #1, Anonymous #2, etc.)
F. Extra points for knowing the actor or character’s name.

1. Somehow he can rationalize it - like, the establishment owes him Snickers. Winona Ryder as Lelaina Pierce in Reality Bites
2. By night's end, I predict me and her are going to interface. Anthony Michael Hall as The Geek/Farmer Ted in Sixteen Candles (correct answer: tRJ)
3. Silly…only grown-up men are scared of women. Kurt in The Sound of Music (correct answer: Kirsten)
4. Be with me always. Take any form, drive me mad, only do not leave me in this dark alone where I cannot find you. Laurence Oliver as Heathcliff in Wuthering Heights
5. You remember this guy? He skippered Hitler’s catamaran during the war. Droz in PCU (correct answer: otis)
6. I’m very drunk and I intend on getting still drunker before this evening’s over. Clark Gable as Rhett Butler in Gone with the Wind
7. I prefer to be unsociable and taciturn. Makes it all so much more enjoyable, don’t you think? Keira Knightley as Elizabeth Bennett in Pride and Prejudice
8. I teach my kids about the things that really matter. I will teach them about Abraham Lincoln and Ronnie Van Zandt, because they are equally important in my house. Paul Schneider as Jessie Baylor in Elizabethtown
9. There were horses, and a man on fire, and I killed a guy with a trident! Brick Tamblin in Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy (correct answer: Jeanne)
10. Waving your flag with one hand and picking pockets with the other – that’s your patriotism. Ingrid Bergman as Alicia Huberman in Notorious
11. I suddenly remembered my Charlemagne: "Let my armies be the rocks and the trees and the birds in the sky." Dr. Henry Jones, Sr. in Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade (correct answer: Tortcaesar)

if i can make it there, i'll make it anywhere

My 9 hour drive to the Ohio-Pennsylvania border (my pit stop on the trek to NY) took me 10.5 hours, thanks to evening rush hour traffic in Chicago. I really do enjoy going 4 miles an hour - does wonders for the gas mileage. And northwest Indiana smells like mung.

Dear Guy Behind Me on the Dan Ryan,

I'm sorry if I grossed you out when I started spitting mouthfuls of water out of my car window. See, I figured that I should make use of the two hours it took for me to drive from the Northwest 'Burbs to the Southeast 'Burbs, and used that time to whiten my teeth. As the goop from the Crest Whitestrips leaves a nasty film on my teeth, I had to rinse it out. Multitasking is a skill, and I can't help it if I excel at it. Besides, the sight of U.S. Cellular Field makes me want to heave.

Sox suck,
Me

Dear Douchebags on I-80 in Ohio,

It's a one-lane road through a construction zone. Unlike you, I have neither a death wish nor the funds with which to pay the doubled fines for speeding in a work zone. I'm also fairly certain that the guy in the van in front of me is wasted, and I'm trying to stay away from him. So drop the hemorrhoid act and BACK OFF!

Someone pass the Preparation H,
Me.

UPDATE...

Dear Northern Pennsylvania,

You're really pretty. However, the drive would have been much more scenic if you carved a Starbucks into the side of a mountain. Trust me.

Capitalism rules,
Me.

Dear Studio that Distributes "The Da Vinci Code",

You know, it probably wasn't the best idea to include a trailer for "World Trade Center" in the copies that were sent to theaters in the New York metro area. Some folks just aren't ready for that.

Just a suggestion,
Me.
