sometimes you close your eyes and see the place where you used to live

Today, I finished the last final of my 2L year. (And honestly, that's about all I can say about that final. Seriously - sitting there talking about policy and "what I would do if I were a shareholder" makes me feel like my exam suddenly turned into an appointment with my shrink where we talk about feelings for an hour. Okay, maybe that's an exaggeration...but I don't like the "that's it???" feeling I got from my Business Organizations II final today. And this is a really long parenthetical.)

So to celebrate the end of finals, I hopped in Flying Elvis and drove down to Chicago to go see The Killers in concert. Which means that I can now say "I saw Brandon Flowers faceplant on stage during a song." Aside from the slight prop malfunction, and aside from the fact the instruments (a) completely overpowered the vocals, and (b) were giving a lot of feedback during the latter portion of the show, it was a pretty good time.

This week has been a week of endings. First, on Tuesday night, I cried as I watched Rory graduate from Yale on "Gilmore Girls". Because, you know, it's been a rocky four years - from the class she got a "D" in, to the part where she dropped out and joined the DAR for a semester...makes my own sad little law school existence seem quite a bit less dramatic in comparison. But the bigger ending this week will occur about...34 hours from now, when my sister graduates from Lynchburg College in Virginia.

Which is where I'm headed tomorrow morning. Graduation will be followed by a drive from Lynchburg to Austin with my family, resulting in me spending more time in Tennessee than I ever wanted to, or will ever want to at any point in the future. (Tennessee is right up there with Alabama and Mississippi on my list of states that maybe, you know, the Union should've just let secede without a fight.)

But at least I now know that there's a store in Austin that sells cheese curds - something to look forward to while I'm on vacation.

how to make me really mad really quickly

Wait for the most emotional moment during the season finale of "Gilmore Girls" to pick up the phone and call me. Because not only do I miss what's going on because of the cell phone ring, but I miss what's going on because I'm searching the room for my cell phone to turn the ringer off so that I can concentrate on the show. And then I turn the phone off and get back to the show, but I don't know what Lorelai just said and things are happening and I'm confused and really, really angry at this person who just called me. (This, of course, may explain why I have very few friends. Just a theory.) But I did manage to catch this line:

"For months, I've been skulking around and not having an opinion like I'm Clarence Thomas."

So since "Gilmore Girls" threw in a line about law, I decided that made up for all of the studying I've been putting off, and continued to not study for Property.

mmm...chattel...

Right now, I'm torn between just going into my Property final with my 10-page outline, and actually working on making a checklist to accompany that outline tonight.

I'm leaning towards not making the checklist. It depends on how much time I'll have to devote to "mentally preparing for 'Gilmore Girls' season finale" and "recovering from 'Gilmore Girls' season finale" tonight.

Plus, if all else fails, I figure that I can answer every question for which I don't know the answer by writing "Denny Crane". And I don't think that I need a checklist for that.

i just realized something

My dreaded Property final is next Wednesday morning.

The "Gilmore Girls" season finale is next Tuesday night.

Do you think this counts as an "emergency" that warrants rescheduling the exam?

is it may 10th yet?

I plan on spending today studying until "CSI: Miami" comes on at 9.

And by "studying", I mean "watching 'General Hospital', 'The Tyra Banks Show', 'Gilmore Girls'/'X-Files', '30 Minute Meals' hour, the first hour of the Sox/Yankees game, half hour of the Cubs/Bucs game, 'How I Met Your Mother', 'Two and a Half Men', and 'The New Adventures of Old Christine'".

That should pretty much keep me occupied until 9.

it's better to be "done" than "good"

Or so I told myself fifteen minutes ago when I printed out my last assignment for the semester. Does it suck? Absolutely. Will I get a grade above a B? Absolutely not. Do I care? Abso...well...sort of. But it's done. And now I can worry about "studying" [cough] for exams.

"This final will be completely open iPod." ~Civ Pro professor, on allowing students to listen to music to drown out the clickety-click of keyboards during the exam.

Meanwhile, did anyone see "American Idol" tonight? I only saw a bit, because I have to watch the complete destruction of Luke and Lorelai's relationship on "Gilmore Girls". But I will say this:

(1) Elliott is awesome, even if he does sound a bit like Clay Aiken. (And I do enjoy the Gaiken.)
(2) Who let Paula Abdul off her meds? Yes, Elliott was good. Was he tear-worthy? Not so much. The only time I've ever cried listening to music was when I got to see Bruce perform "Born to Run" live, and that's because it's Bruce and one of the Five Greatest Songs Ever Written. This is "American Idol" - the show that gave us Justin Guarini for christssake. If this week is any indication as to how this season will progress, the producers better keep the horse tranquilizers on hand next week, just in case Paula loses it.

another viewer (reader?) poll!

Since exam time is upon us once again, I got to thinking about what's in store for yours truly over the next few weeks. Being that I spent most of the semester with (and recovering from) bird flu, I think it's safe to say that the only grades for which I will be competing are the lowest grades in my classes.

That begs the question: in lieu of a final bluebookesque (yes, that's totally a word) exam, what sort of exam would be more likely to garner me an A in my classes?

(a) Take-home essay exam, which would allow me to do the work when I do it best - at 3am whilst hopped up on caffeine and watching X-Files and Gilmore Girls DVDs
(b) Old school-style Tetris, in which I play four games (corresponding to my four classes), and get an A every time I get the Kremlin to launch at the end
(c) Dance Dance Revolution, but only if I can be pitted against K-Fed
(d) None of the above, because there's a law school conspiracy afoot preventing me from getting As
